Louis van Gaal: David de Gea will not leave Manchester United this month

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has dismissed speculation that David de Gea will leave for Real Madrid this month.

Madrid were recently hit by a transfer ban, meaning they will not be allowed to register players in the next two transfer windows.

However, they are allowed to sign players in the current window, leading to speculation that they will go all out for long-term target De Gea this month.

When asked if De Gea’s head has been turned, van Gaal said: “I don’t know, because I don’t think that kind of thing plays in the mind of David De Gea. I have never thought that.

“Now I am seeing a De Gea who is enjoying to stay here at Manchester United and play good games.”

With next to no chance of getting a suitable replacement, it is highly unlikely that Man United will let go of De Gea in January. The Old Trafford faithful would go into uproar if it ever came off.

The Spaniard has been one of the team’s standout players this term and his importance to United cannot be understated. The hope is that the transfer ban kills any hopes that Madrid had of signing De Gea, at least for the time being.
