Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal provides injury update ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger “is coming back” from injury but that he needs more time before recovering fully.

Van Gaal also revealed that Michael Carrick is injured and that he will not be fit in time to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Phil Jones “could be back soon” and Adnan Januzaj is ready to occupy a place on the substitute’s bench or play for the U21s:

The hope is that Schweinsteiger is able to start against Liverpool as Marouane Fellaini has looked poor in the deep lying midfielder position in recent weeks. If not, perhaps the German will be fit enough to come off the bench.

It is also good that United will have Januzaj as an option against Liverpool. The Belgian recently cut short a disappointing loan spell at Borussia Dortmund and he will be eager to prove a point.

Defeat against Liverpool would leave United in a precarious situation in the Premier League and would give Jurgen Klopp’s side momentum in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League. Van Gaal needs to secure a positive result against United’s fierce rivals.
