Luca Toni criticises Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal

Luca Toni has criticised Louis van Gaal over his treatment of him during their time together at Bayern Munich.

Toni, who now plays for Verona, scored 58 goals in 88 appearances over three years at Bayern.

The Italian had won the league and cup double with Bayern in the 2007/08 season but van Gaal froze him out of the side when he arrived at the German club in 2009. Toni eventually went to Roma on loan while van Gaal won the domestic treble with Bayern in the 2009/10 campaign.

“Van Gaal hates Latin players,” Toni said.

“At Bayern he looked for any chance to fight with me, Ribery and Lucio because fans loved us.”

Van Gaal has fallen out with a number of players over the course of his career, with the likes of Rivaldo and Mark van Bommel not seeing eye to eye with the Dutch boss.

At United, Victor Valdes has been frozen out by van Gaal following a fallen out over the Spaniard’s apparent refusal to play for the U21s. While his attitude establishes a sense of authority at the club, van Gaal’s stubbornness may be the undoing of him.
