Manchester United are leading the race to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Islam Slimani, according to reports.
Slimani, who impressed at the 2014 World Cup, has scored 13 goals in 16 league games this season.
Man United scouts have reportedly watched the Algerian in action on a number of occasions over the past two months.
However, United are said to face competition for the player’s signature, with Leicester City and West Ham United also interested.
Louis van Gaal is in desperate need of reinforcements this month and Slimani would provide some attacking impetus as United look to salvage something from their faltering campaign.
Lazio’s Felipe Anderson was also rumoured to be on United’s radar but BBC reporter Simon Stone recently claimed that the Italian club are simply using United in order to drum up interest in the player. The hope for fans is that someone moves to Manchester sooner rather than later but the January transfer window is a notoriously difficult one to buy in.
