Matteo Darmian: Manchester United must move on from Newcastle United disappointment

Matteo Darmian has urged his Manchester United teammates to put the disappointing 3-3 draw against Newcastle United behind them ahead of the clash against Liverpool this weekend.

Man United went 2-0 up against Newcastle on Tuesday but goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic pegged the Magpies back on level terms.

Wayne Rooney looked like he had won it for United with a wonderful strike ten minutes from time but Paul Dummett’s late equaliser earned a point for Newcastle. Darmian insisted United have to move on from the result.

“We’re disappointed because we led 2-0 and, after that, we had chances to close the game,” Darmian said.

“But this is football and sometimes in 90 minutes, even in the last minute, they can score so now we are talking about a draw and not a win. It’s a big match against Liverpool this weekend. We’ll try to be ready for that game and now we have to focus on this challenge and that’s all – obviously, we want to win.”

Darmian had some shaky moments against Newcastle and it wasn’t one of the Italian’s better games for United.

That being said, he has been asked to move about the back four in recent weeks and play alongside players such as Daley Blind and Ashley Young, who are not natural defenders. He, along with the rest of his teammates, will need to be on top form if United are to secure a positive result against Liverpool.
