Preston North End boss has confirmed he expects to complete the signing of Liam Grimshaw on Monday.
The Manchester United midfielder was recalled early from his loan at Motherwell and the Scottish club revealed their pursuit of Grimshaw fell short as they were “gazumped” by an English club.
Grimshaw, 21, is now expected to leave Man United within the next few days and follow former team-mate Ben Pearson to Preston.
Although Grimshaw was nominated for the Denzil Haroun Player of the Year award for the U21s last season, there won’t be many fans who are overly surprised by his imminent exit.
That isn’t to say Grimshaw won’t go on and be a cracking player in the football league for another team but he never stood out to me at U21s level and rarely do players go on to have a career with United unless they do just that – take Adnan Januzaj and Andreas Pereira for recent examples.
While United’s first-team might not be busy with transfers in January at the moment, there is plenty of activity with our U21s squad.
