The Spaniard made some vital saves throughout the game to ensure that Wayne Rooney‘s strike in the 78th minute was the winner, helping Man United move six points clear of their fierce rivals in the Premier League. De Gea was called into action on numerous occasions as the Reds struggled to get into the game, particularly in the first half.
The 25-year-old was voted as United’s Man of the Match and it is hard to argue with fans who opted for him, given the dire nature of the display from the rest of the team. De Gea has saved United time and again over the past few seasons and it is not a surprise to see him make saves that other shot-stoppers would struggle with.
His distribution was top notch against Liverpool and he constantly tried to get his side going forward on the counter attack.
The former Atletico Madrid man keeps showing what a key player he is for Louis van Gaal and his failed move to Real Madrid in the summer is starting to look like the best thing to come out of the transfer window from a United point of view.
