Louis van Gaal‘s future is one of the most debated topics among Manchester United fans right now; will he stay or will he go?
The general consensus is that if he was going to be sacked this season, it would have already happened by now so there is real focus pointing towards this summer and what will happen then.
The Mirror’s David McDonnell published a piece on Tuesday night suggesting he was considering stepping down this summer and that his family and friends were worried at the toll the job is taking on him. After all, he is 65 at the start of next season.
I suppose at this point in the year a lot of the chatter is subjective and calculated guesswork. There are no guarantees whether van Gaal will be here next season, nor are there any guarantees he won’t be but we all know there is intense speculation over it.
For van Gaal himself, he’ll be disappointed with how things have gone because his ‘process’ and ‘philosophy’ have been scrutinised intensely, rightly so, because it wasn’t delivering. Would that be enough to make him quit? That’s questionable but the longer this season goes on, I expect more and more articles like this one from McDonnell to appear which suggest van Gaal will be leaving at the end of this season, whether by choice or force.
