Andreas Pereira has spoken out about his frustrations at Manchester United and says he wants to get game time in order to put himself into contention for Brazil’s 2018 Olympics squad.
The 20-year-old midfielder has been in sparkling form for Man United’s U21s in the last two games but has found his opportunities with the first-team somewhat limited, with Louis van Gaal preferring to play Marouane Fellaini ahead of him.
It’s a concern for Man United fans to hear Pereira say he is deciding his future with his agent as we all want to see him remain at the club and break through.
“I’m a United player, [but] I’ve seen in the press that there are various other clubs interested,” he told GloboEsporte.
“I don’t know if United want to loan me out but I’m working hard to get more opportunities. It’s their decision.
“I’m focused on doing my job at United, [but] of course I want to be more visible to those in Brazil. So I need to play more and get more chances.
“Playing in the Olympics is a big dream of mine.
“He’s asked me to keep working hard and that my chance will come. I’m doing my best.
“Of course I get frustrated at times that I’m not playing, but the coach is always speaking to me.
“I need more game time and the club will decide with my agent.”
Pereira has already been linked with a loan move away from United and by the sounds of it, it’s something he is strongly considering unless van Gaal gives him more chances.
If Jesse Lingard deserved his chances then Pereira certainly does as well, so there has to be some parity there so I can understand Andreas’ concerns, especially with Fellaini getting so much game time.
With only 12 days until the transfer window closes, there isn’t much time left for a deal to be agreed but if van Gaal continues to leave Pereira out of his squad, then the young Brazilian may very well push an exit from United which would lead to question marks over his long-term future.
