Ronald Koeman has revealed that new Southampton signing Charlie Austin will be in the squad to face Manchester United this weekend.
Southampton won the race for Austin’s signature last week in a deal believed to be worth around £4m.
The 26-year-old had been struggling with a hamstring issue but Koeman insisted that Austin will be fit in time to face Man United at Old Trafford.
“I was a little bit worried because Charlie had a hamstring injury before we signed him but he had all the medical tests and did all the training session this week and is really fit and that is good news because he can be part of the squad this weekend,” Koeman said.
Austin enjoyed a memorable campaign with Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League last season and his presence will be a boost for Southampton if he plays against United.
However, Southampton also have the likes of Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic, who can all cause problems on their day. United will need to be on top form if they are to build on last week’s 1-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield.
