Brighton boss Chris Hughton full of praise for James Wilson after he nets winner against Huddersfield

Brighton boss Chris Hughton believes Championship football is benefiting James Wilson after the Manchester United loanee scored the winner in the Seagulls’ 2-1 win over Huddersfield on Saturday.

Wilson scored the decisive goal in the 67th minute as Brighton bounced back from three consecutive home defeats.

It was Wilson’s third goal for Brighton since he moved to the club from Man United earlier this term. Hughton praised the youngster following the clash.

“The intention is to give him valuable experience and be regularly involved in games. It will toughen him up physically,” Hughton said.

“He knows what the Championship is all about now and that is valuable experience for him.

“Ultimately, he`ll be sent back after half a season’s experience at this level.

“He scored a really good goal, is having the benefit of hard-fought and aggressive games and at the minute it is working out very well.”

Wilson is too good for the U21s but Louis van Gaal was reluctant to give him a chance in the first team at United this term.

It is good that he is getting regular minutes on the pitch at Brighton and the experience should serve him well for the future. Perhaps United will call him back sooner rather than later following the 1-0 defeat against Southampton.
