Louis van Gaal: Manchester United fans right to boo me

by Ben Topliss

Louis van Gaal believes Manchester United fans were right to boo him and the team following the 1-0 loss against Southampton on Saturday.

Man United fans booed their team off the pitch after Charlie Austin’s late winner secured all three points for the Saints.

It was United’s sixth Premier League defeat of the season and the 11th consecutive home match in which they failed to score in the first half. Van Gaal made no excuses after the clash.

“They are right to boo. I cannot deny that, I saw the match,” van Gaal said.

“For better or for worse we have to stick together. We are working very hard, but we have had a lot of injuries. That you cannot change.”

United were truly abysmal against Southampton and there were no positives to take away from the game whatsoever.

Van Gaal’s side have had their fair share of injuries but that can be no excuse for the dismal display – United only mustered one shot on target over the course of the match. Confidence in van Gaal has gone and it remains to be seen how much longer he stays in charge.
