Marouane Fellaini suffers afternoon to forget against Southampton

by Ben Topliss

Marouane Fellaini had an afternoon to forget as Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Man United suffered from a distinct lack of cutting edge as Charlie Austin’s late winner sealed all three points for the Saints.

Fellaini had another ineffectual display in central midfield and he was rightly substituted at half-time. His stats tell you everything you need to know: Zero shots, 74% passing, one chance created, zero take-ons, 40% aerial duels, zero interceptions, 100% tackles.

Juan Mata replaced Fellaini at the break and the Spaniard brought much more to United’s attacking play.

It is clear that Fellaini is not right for United and the sooner he leaves the club, the better, with AC Milan reportedly interested.

As for United, they failed to build on the win against Liverpool last week and securing a top four finish in the Premier League looks like it will be an uphill struggle.
