Citing van Gaal’s win percentage so far (49.2%) being worse than any other manager, United’s terrible record of not scoring in 10 out of 11 home games and our points total, De Telegraaf’s editorial makes their opinion clear – sacking van Gaal is completely justified at this point in time.
While there is nothing new in De Telegraaf’s article, it is interesting nonetheless because of their close ties to van Gaal. They were the newspaper who first broke the story of his move to Man United and as that news developed, they were consistently leading the way so clearly had strong links to van Gaal and information surrounding him.
This article is rather damning in its tone and delivery. They’re not exactly standing up for van Gaal and unfortunately for him, it’s now become almost impossible to defend him, even if you’re Dutch.
It’s a sign of the growing discontent that is threatening to become overwhelming following the 1-0 defeat to Southampton at the weekend. Does van Gaal have anywhere else to turn other than the exit door of Old Trafford?
