The Dutchman is set for crunch talks with Ed Woodward over whether he will continue as Man United’s manager, although the conversation itself may have happened via a phone call if other reports are correct.
Van Gaal was back in the Netherlands this weekend for his daughter’s birthday and the players were also given a couple of days off following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton, so the team will have a few days to prepare ahead of Derby on Friday.
Over the last 48 hours, there have been swathes of reports about van Gaal; from claims he offered to resign after Southampton and others suggesting Woodward had discussed the club’s problems with senior players to others which said van Gaal had actually tried to resign twice earlier in the season but Woodward refused.
All in all, things really don’t look good for van Gaal at the moment but we thought he’d be sacked after losing to Stoke in December and nothing happened. Yet, this feels a bit different and there’s more momentum behind it, so we’ll keep a close eye on any developments tonight and bring you updates as soon as there are any.
