Manchester United will want a comfortable win and a good performance against Derby in the FA Cup on Friday by putting out a strong team.
Although that seems fanciful considering the turmoil at the club, Louis van Gaal will want to ensure his side has the best possible chance of a smooth progression into the next round of the competition.
Confidence in van Gaal is at an all-time low following the 1-0 defeat against Southampton last time out and a loss against Derby would surely be the final nail in the coffin as far as the Dutchman is concerned.
Derby haven’t been in the best form as of late but they will have nothing to lose and, as shown by the narrow victory against Sheffield United in the previous round, lower league teams aren’t scared of putting up a fight.
The FA Cup represents United’s only realistic chance of silverware this term and exiting it at this stage would be calamitous.
