Derby boss Paul Clement looking forward to Manchester United ‘challenge’

Derby boss Paul Clement has revealed he is looking forward to the “challenge” of taking on Manchester United in the FA Cup on Friday.

Man United are in terrible form heading into the clash, with Louis van Gaal under pressure following the 1-0 defeat against Southampton last time out.

However, Derby are also in a poor run having failed to secure a win in their past five games in the Championship. Clement was in confident mood ahead of the game.

“I am not sure it will quite be a giant-killing if we get a good result on Friday,” he said.

“We all know these are the kind of tests we would have week-in, week-out if we won promotion. It is a challenge we are really looking forward to against a team that is not in great form.”

As shown by United’s narrow victory over Sheffield United in the last round of the competition, lower league teams can prove to be more than a handful when they have nothing to lose.

With United in a fragile state, it makes sense for Derby to really get in their faces and make life difficult for them. It remains to be seen how van Gaal’s side responds. A defeat would be disastrous in terms of confidence in the Dutchman.
