Thierry Henry: Manchester United should get Jose Mourinho

Thierry Henry believes Manchester United are ‘crying out’ for Jose Mourinho and that he needs to replace Louis van Gaal as manager.

With 11 straight home games at Old Trafford without a first half goal and sitting five points behind Tottenham Hotspur who are in fourth place, Man United are struggling this season to say the least.

Van Gaal’s style of football has become extremely abrasive for United fans who have lost patience in the potential of the philosophy and process to bear fruits, and Henry feels a change is needed.

Writing in his column for The Sun, Henry said: “The club are crying out for success and Mourinho guarantees that, in spite of everything that happened at Chelsea this season.

“He is still an amazing coach and United have got to do something because it is simply not working for Louis van Gaal.

“If Manchester City get Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone or Jorge Sampaoli go to Chelsea, which is possible this summer, United have to react. They can’t just carry on as they are.”

It’s hard to justify van Gaal being in the job at the moment and every game is now a defining one for the Dutchman. Win against Stoke on Tuesday and the pitchforks will stay hidden but lose or draw and they will be back again – he’s forced himself onto the edge of a cliff.

Fans never booed David Moyes yet they have become commonplace at Old Trafford this season. It sums up the general feeling among fans at the moment as United have made mediocre performances the norm, it’s not what United are used to and we’re capable of far better with the squad we’ve already got.

Time will tell if Mourinho is indeed brought in to United but the longer this season goes on without United showing consistent improvement towards bettering last year’s top four finish, then the closer van Gaal surely gets to an exit.
