Manchester United offer €30m for Renato Sanches – report

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have offered SL Benfica €30m for midfielder Renato Sanches and want to complete a deal for the midfielder in January, according to reports.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo say Man United have included a €10m bonus in the deal which would be activated if Sanches achieved certain objectives at the club.

Sanches’ name has been linked with United quite a few times in January, right from the beginning of the month up until this week, based on the fact our scouts have been ever-present in Portugal.

Having represented Portugal at every youth level up until the U18s so far, Sanches was fast-tracked from making his debut for the reserves at 17 and accelerated into the first-team this season where he has clearly made quite an impression.

As for reports from O Jogo about United wanting to bring him in this January, it would be a major signing financially but where does an 18-year-old midfielder fit in terms of solving our current issues in attack?

Let’s not forget Nicolas Gaitan and the rumours which survived for years about him coming to United, only for him to then go and sign a new contract, so we won’t be taking this one as fact just yet.

With just over 24 hours until the transfer window closes, there isn’t much time to push through a deal but we’ll keep on top of the Sanches reports tomorrow and keep you up to date as to whether United may complete a surprise signing after a month of very little transfer activity.

NB – There is an obligatory highlights video of Sanches this season at Benfica for those who want to see him in action.
