With Louis van Gaal in search of a right-back on transfer deadline day, Manchester United have reportedly turned to Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy.
Man United have a number of injuries at the back, with Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw all sidelined, and the thinking is that Debuchy would come in on loan for the rest of the campaign.
Debuchy has fallen out of favour at Arsenal this term and the Frenchman will be keen to move on ahead of the European championships this summer. However, the news that United are interested divided opinion among supporters:
@PeoplesPerson_ mid table ambitions.

@peoplesperson_ Would rather play Romero at RB

@PeoplesPerson_ Pointless. Why block the development of Verela & CBJ with someone who's not top class & will go back in summer anyway?

@PeoplesPerson_ absolutely NOT.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Guillermo Varela have been covering the full-back positions amid the injury crisis and the pair have impressed.
Last week’s FA Cup clash against Derby, in particular, saw Varela and Borthwick-Jackson put in superb performances.
Debuchy would provide some depth in the squad but there is a question mark over whether he is good enough. Perhaps United would be better off placing their faith in Varela and Borthwick-Jackson rather than stunting their development with a mediocre player.
