Rooney re-found his goalscoring touch with six goals and scored in all but one game in January to show Man United fans that he is capable of consistently finding the net.
Martial is deservedly on the shortlist as well after some sparkling performances, especially against Derby on Friday where he lit up the stage. He won the December Player of the Month award so has the potential to win it consecutively.
As for Borthwick-Jackson, I’m very excited to see him named in this shortlist because it is testament to the very impressive month he had.
His faultless performance away to Liverpool in one of the most hostile atmospheres Man United face each season gave fans plenty of belief he could be an excellent Luke Shaw replacement this year. So long as he continues in this sort of form, he’ll be in the team every week.
In my opinion, Rooney should be named Player of the Month because he’s back to his goalscoring best and doing so every week. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen that sort of consistency from Rooney and fans will all be hoping that he can continue that against Stoke on Tuesday as well as away at Chelsea next weekend.
