Manchester United made late ‘overtures’ for Pep Guardiola before Manchester City confirmed that he will replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad next season, according to the Guardian.
City revealed on Monday that the Bayern Munich boss will move to the blue half of Manchester at the end of the campaign.
However, Man United reportedly made a late move for Guardiola amid uncertainty over Louis van Gaal’s position at Old Trafford. Chelsea, too, explored the possibility with Guus Hiddink only an interim coach for the rest of the season.
If United really did make an eleventh hour bid for Guardiola, it shows that the club has no long-term strategy in place.
United are in disarray right now; they have allowed Guardiola to go to City, Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool and they continue to ignore Jose Mourinho.
Ed Woodward’s stubbornness is costing the club dearly and United are running out of time to turn things around.
