Matteo Darmian back in Man United squad for Stoke game

Matteo Darmian will return to Manchester United’s squad for tonight’s game against Stoke City at Old Trafford.

The Italian full-back has been missing since suffering a painful looking injury in Man United’s 1-0 loss to Southampton. However, he looks to have overcome his fitness problems and gives Louis van Gaal a tough decision to make.

Guillermo Varela has been excellent at right-back and his most accomplished performance came in the 3-1 win over Derby, so does van Gaal drop him for Darmian or stick with the Uruguayan?

For me, Varela warrants his place in that starting XI. Too much unnecessary changing around of players isn’t healthy and if we are to keep the momentum gained from the Derby game, we should be looking at keeping that team together which swept Derby aside.

Varela and Borthwick-Jackson were crucial to that win and as much as I feel Darmian is our first choice right-back when fit, it wouldn’t make any sense to drop Varela at the moment, at least for the Stoke game.
