Manchester United did not attempt to hijack Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City move – report

Manchester United did not make an attempt to hijack Pep Guardiola’s move to Manchester City, according to Sky sources.

City announced on Monday that Guardiola will replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad at the end of the season.

The Spaniard had been linked with a move to Man United before the announcement but the club were privately of the view that Guardiola was destined for City for a number of months.

Louis van Gaal is currently under pressure at Old Trafford and if true, it is bizarre that United did not even export the possibility of getting Guardiola.

That being said, it is unlikely that the club would admit to trying to lure him away from City so as to avoid embarrassment.

United are languishing in mediocrity right now and Guardiola going to City will leave them even further behind. You get the sense that change needs to happen throughout the club to stop them from fading away completely.
