Anthony Martial produced an imperious display against Derby in the FA Cup last time out and Louis van Gaal may be tempted to maximise his impact on the clash against Stoke on Tuesday by pushing him further up the pitch at Old Trafford.
Martial was by far and away Man United’s best attacking threat against Derby. His assist for Juan Mata’s late strike was world-class.
Although van Gaal won’t want to change things too much, he may think about moving the Frenchman up top:
Playing Martial up front would likely give United more of a cutting edge up front, although Wayne Rooney has improved in recent weeks.
Varela, in particular, wasn’t afraid to get stuck in against the Rams and he provided a good outlet going forward.
