Manchester United fans laud Wayne Rooney following performance against Stoke City

Manchester United fans were happy to see Wayne Rooney maintain his excellent form of 2016 in the 3-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday night.

The captain was a dynamic and composed force upfront all game, finding the net once again after some good work from Anthony Martial. And he would have had another if his calm finish wasn’t wrongly chalked off for a foul on Glen Johnson.

Regardless, Man United fans expressed their delight at seeing their captain continue a much-needed purple patch:

Rooney was rightly subjected to widespread derision from all corners of the footballing world earlier in the season in light of some truly woeful performances upfront.

However, with Louis van Gaal‘s side in desperate need of experienced, strong-willed characters, the 30-year-old has delivered. 2016 has seen a resurgence in form for the skipper, whose improved dynamism and composure – in both link-up play and in-front of goal – is palpable.

United fans will be desperate to see Rooney maintain his potency towards the latter stage of the season.
