Borthwick-Jackson managed to further cement his place in Louis van Gaal‘s starting XI after giving an assured and energetic display on the left side of defence. And, alongside his defensive solidity, the teenager showed his attacking prowess with a wonderful cross to tee up Jesse Lingard for Man United’s opener after 15 minutes.
His rise to prominence has been one of the few positive aspects of United’s season, and supporters were quick to laud Borthwick-Jackson’s continued brilliance:
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s ball is absolutely sumptuous. Beckham-esque type delivery.

Borthwick-Jackson was great tonight. Proper battle against Walters and passed with flying colours

Some fans were crying out for a new left-back during the January transfer window, but Borthwick-Jackson’s quality in defence is perhaps indicative of the solution to United’s woes in the position being right under their noses.
