Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has claimed that Adnan Januzaj failed to impress on loan at the German club because “a part of him” was still at Manchester United.
Januzaj joined Dortmund on loan from Man United on the final day of the transfer window in the summer.
However, he struggled to make an impact at Dortmund, with Tuchel not handing him a single Bundesliga start. Tuchel has previously criticised Januzaj’s attitude and he has now elaborated on the Belgian further.
“A part of him was always still in Manchester and we just couldn’t help him cut this umbilical cord,” Tuchel said.
“He didn’t wholly embrace Borussia. He always compared everything with how it had been at United.”
Januzaj’s loan was cancelled by United prematurely in January but he is yet to get going back at Old Trafford.
He made a brief cameo from the substitute’s bench against Southampton last month but he failed to make the squad against Stoke City last time out. At 20 years old, time is still on Januzaj’s side but his reputation has taken a hit following the failed spell at Dortmund.
