Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick put in a typically assured display in the 3-0 win over Stoke City on Tuesday.
Carrick had been struggling with an injury in recent weeks but he started against the Potters after completing a cameo from the substitute’s bench in the FA Cup win over Derby last weekend.
Playing alongside Marouane Fellaini in midfield, Carrick controlled the middle of the park as Man United wrapped up a convincing three points. A glance at his stats tell you everything you need to know.

Louis van Gaal added Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin to the squad in the summer in an attempt to alleviate some of the pressure on Carrick this term but the fact remains that he is United’s classiest midfielder.
However, at 34 years of age, Carrick may not have that long left at the highest level.
United found it difficult to replace Paul Scholes at Old Trafford and they will likely face the same issues when Carrick leaves, too. The hope is that the club can secure some silverware before Carrick hangs up his boots for good.
