Louis van Gaal confirms that Bastian Schweinsteiger is still injured ahead of Chelsea clash

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Bastian Schweinsteiger will miss Sunday’s clash against Chelsea due to injury.

Schweinsteiger, who has not played for Man United since the FA Cup win over Sheffield United in January, has been struggling with a knee injury in recent weeks.

Phil Jones, meanwhile, is close to a return after training on Friday. Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are also progressing well in their returns from injury.

It was initially thought that Schweinsteiger would be out for a few weeks but he is yet to recover fully.

His absence will be a blow as his experience would have proved invaluable at Stamford Bridge, although van Gaal will be able to call on Michael Carrick.

Chelsea have injury problems of their own, with Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy unavailable for the game. Alexandre Pato and Pedro also have question marks hanging over their fitness.
