Manchester United have informed Jorge Mendes that they are keen on signing his client Renato Sanches from Benfica this summer.
Manchester Evening News say Ed Woodward has already contacted Mendes about Sanches and was subsequently told that multiple other clubs including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also interested in signing him.
With a huge release clause in the region of £46m on his head, the 18-year-old midfielder would be a huge outlay but Anthony Martial has shown that an overpriced teenager can excel in the right environment. Sanches could fall into that category as well.
Every summer we are likely to see the British record transfer record beaten now that another TV deal is going to bring another influx of cash to the already cash rich Premier League, and spending that much on a midfield teenager is not outside of the realms of possibility (we already did it with Martial).
The fact Woodward has reportedly already been in contact shows a willing intent and our close relationship with Mendes plays to our advantage, so if we did want him it would surely be nothing more than a case of meeting his release clause.
United have gone through so much change over the last few years but with Louis van Gaal likely to be on the way out, I expect there to still be plenty of change and new signings arriving.
