Manchester United’s Juan Mata embraces Chelsea players after draw at Stamford Bridge

by Ben Topliss

Juan Mata embraced every Chelsea player as they left the pitch following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Mata spent three years at Chelsea between 2011 and 2014, winning the club’s Player of the Year award in his debut campaign and helping them win the Champions League.

He eventually joined Man United but he remains friends with many of the players and staff in London. Mata made the gesture last year and he repeated it at the weekend:

Mata was awarded the Man of the Match award against his former side on Sunday as he pulled the strings for United at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard had been in poor form over the festive period but he has improved considerably in recent weeks.

United are in a precarious position in the Premier League following the draw against Chelsea and players such as Mata will need to step up if the club are to make a success of their season.
