Mauricio Pochettino to Manchester United rumours begin

Manchester United have allegedly shown interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino to replace Louis van Gaal at the end of the season.

Reports suggest that Man United chiefs have held discussions with representatives of Pochettino after Jose Mourinho doubts continue to strengthen at Old Trafford.

The 43-year-old has been enjoying an impressive spell at White Hart lane as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Erik Dier have broken into the England squad underneath him, so it’s no surprise to see the links.

However, Football365’s Mediawatch has surfaced some quotes from Pochettino in December where he reveals he does not have an agent. Speaking at the time, Mauricio said: “It was very tough, and he won. I negotiated with him and now I am very strong. I don’t have an agent.

“He offered the contract and I say yes or no or I want more. He has a reputation as a very hard businessman? It’s true. I can feel that.”

If Pochettino doesn’t have an agent, what representatives did United get in contact with unless it Tottenham Hotspur directly which, if that did happen, would probably have been met with a laugh and a hung up phone from David Levy.

As I said, I’m not surprised to see the Pochettino links starting but it would be an extremely difficult and expensive job trying to prise him away from Spurs and Levy, especially with their new stadium just around the corner. They are a club building for the future and Pochettino is clearly a major part of that.

Replacing Louis van Gaal is a hugely important job for United to get right but unless they pay the world for him, Pochettino won’t be leaving Spurs even if he wants the Old Trafford move.
