The Frenchman has been vital for Louis van Gaal‘s side this season, registering six goals and three assists since his £36million summer move from AS Monaco.
Martial also admitted earlier this season the England captain’s experience has helped him settle and develop as a striker.
Speaking to ManUtd.com, Martial explained: “It’s always nice, it allows me to keep improving and also to feel more relaxed when playing alongside him. When you see someone like Rooney, you feel that bit more confident.”
The game against Stoke at home summed up how Rooney and Martial are starting to build a partnership together. Rooney laid on the assist for Martial to score Man United’s second goal after a stunning counter-attack and later in the game the Frenchman returned the favour with an excellent ball across the box which Rooney tucked away.
All season long we’ve been waiting for Rooney to hit form and he’s now in an excellent run at the same time as Martial is showing his best form as well. Those two players combined are making United a real attacking threat in every game now, regardless of whether they score or not.
We’ve all been pleasantly surprised how well Martial has settled into life in Manchester and are excited about what the future holds for him. Whether that is alongside Rooney next season remains to be seen but one thing is for sure, whatever they are doing they need to keep doing because for one of the first times this season, United are playing exciting football and it’s great to watch.
