Thiago Motta has backed Jose Mourinho‘s ability as a manager and says he isn’t a manager who feels any pressure.
The Italian midfielder was part of Mourinho’s Inter Milan side which won the treble back in 2010 and knows what it is like to work underneath him.
With the growing rumours linking him with Manchester United, Motta feels he’s the perfect man to return trophies to Old Trafford.
“It takes a brave coach to go there now, but Jose is brave enough,” said Motta.
“For the last three seasons Manchester United haven’t been the Manchester United people are used to.
“I know there would be pressure on Jose to get United back winning trophies, but that will not bother him.
“In my experience Jose doesn’t feel pressure – he has such belief in his abilities.
“The Jose that you see in interviews is also the Jose the players see, he really is that confident in himself.”
Mourinho can rub players up the wrong way but if you ask his title winning teams anywhere, there will be plenty of loyalty there as Motta describes here. Take Marco Materazzi breaking down in tears with Mourinho outside the stadium after his last game in charge, that’s the sort of bond he has had with some of his players.
Every United fan is fully aware how bad the last three years have been and that we need somebody to help restore the identity of the club in terms of challenging for trophies on all fronts because David Moyes destroyed that persona and Louis van Gaal has failed to rebuild it.
Is Mourinho the right man to do what van Gaal and Moyes haven’t been able? He is certainly considered the favourite at this stage and Motta has given him his seal of approval to return trophies to Old Trafford.
