The Jose Mourinho to Manchester United links are continuing to intensify after the press reported on Tuesday night that the Portuguese manager told close friends he expects to become boss at Old Trafford.
The Express, Daily Mirror, Daily Mail and Daily Star are all reporting the story but it is The Telegraph’s Matt Law who has the most interesting angle.
Law quotes a ‘well-placed source’ as saying: “Mourinho’s going to Manchester United. It’s a done deal. Chelsea is the only big job up for grabs.”
These rumours are getting too loud to simply ignore any more (which is interestingly the club’s stance at the moment, in stark contrast to the active denials surrounding the Pep Guardiola rumours) and they aren’t going to go away any time soon.
Louis van Gaal has stood firm on his stance that the press have simply invented these Mourinho stories and if that was the case, I really wouldn’t expect van Gaal to sit through a full press conference on Friday.
This is all heating up very quickly regarding Mourinho and United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea hasn’t done anything to quieten the rumours and reports.
Mourinho is widely considered to be van Gaal’s successor at United and it’s really hard to look past him now with the rumours only getting stronger.
