Former Porto FC striker Benni McCarthy believes Jose Mourinho could turn Manchester United back into a European powerhouse.
Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December after a poor start to the term and is ‘convinced‘ he has landed the Old Trafford role.
McCarthy insists the 53-year-old is the perfect man to take over at Man United.
Speaking about Mourinho, he said: “Manchester United have a lot of young players, who want to achieve things and make names for themselves. He would come in and be the perfect man for the job.
“If the players give him 100% effort, and show a willingness to succeed, he could definitely get Manchester United back to being one of those powerhouses in Europe, where teams fear to go.”
Personally, I agree with McCarthy. I think given the context of what has happened over the last three years and the position United now currently find themselves, Mourinho is the main best suited to take over from Louis van Gaal.
It’s a huge task ahead for United. Not only do we have to improve on the pitch but the club has to restructure and improve from within as well, so it’s a job which will come with a lot of politics and behind the scenes work. Mourinho is a man who has a wealth of experience in all those areas and he’s a winner, we need a winner in charge.
Some may say Mourinho would be a short-term appointment but I’d say he’s the person best suited to helping create our long-term success by rebuilding the club immediately, rather than letting it slide into further mediocrity.
