Both players were signed by David Moyes but have gone on to have rather different careers at Man United. While Fellaini has struggled to win over fans, Mata has established himself as a fans’ favourite even if he is guilty of going missing in some games.
Reports linking Mata with an exit were absolutely inevitable when the Mourinho to United stories began because he sold him when he was Chelsea manager, so would enough had happened between now and then for his opinion to have changed?
Fans are worried about the way Mourinho’s approach could split the team and one way to certainly upset the apple cart would be to get rid of Mata given his close relationship with David de Gea and Ander Herrera. However, it is a manager’s priority to get his own squad that he wants, which raises serious question marks over Mata’s head.
One thing is for sure – if Mourinho does come in, I’d expect there to be a few players sold including Fellaini and potentially Mata. We’ve been a club in transition for three years now but we’re heading into a summer which is going to bring about a huge amount of change once again.
