The Frenchman singed from AS Monaco for £36million last summer and has made an instant impact on Louis van Gaal‘s side this season.
Martial has been irreplaceable at Old Trafford this term and shown fans glimpses of his ability that persuaded Man United to make him the world’s most expensive teenager.
Carrick insists it’s easy to forget the 20-year-old is only at the start of his career.
Talking to ManUtd.com: “The amount of ability he’s got is huge.
“The potential is certainly there. It’s easy to forget the age he is and how little football he’s actually played as well. To have such an impact at this stage, with the expectations based on him and the way he’s dealt with it, has been superb.”
We’ve all seen that ability this season but particularly in the last few games. Away to Derby, he was a different gravy. At home to Stoke, he was electric. Away to Chelsea, he gave Branislav Ivanovic twisted legs trying to stop him.
For a man so young and with so much expectation, Martial has taken to the pressures of the Premier League like a duck to water and Carrick is looking forward to seeing what else he can do in the future.
“His performances have been very good,” Carrick continued.
“I think we have to understand that sometimes he might not be that shining light and have days when it’s not quite happening for him, and that’s understandable. But over time he’ll improve and I’ve seen a big improvement already in this short time. Hopefully that trend will continue and he’ll get better and better.”
The sky is the limit for Martial and Old Trafford is the perfect place for him to maximise that potential. Over the years, we’ve seen some of the world’s best players grow at the club and I hope Martial will be the next to do just that.
