Here is a round-up of today’s Manchester United news and transfer gossip.
Manchester United suffered a blow in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League following a 2-1 defeat against Sunderland this afternoon. Louis van Gaal‘s side were all over the place at the Stadium of Light and failed to capitalise on the opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them.
The manager has confirmed that Matteo Darmian will be out of action for “several weeks” after dislocating his shoulder against Sunderland and needing to be replaced by Donald Love after 36 minutes when the Italian defender landed awkwardly on his shoulder.
Elsewhere, Lucas Moura has revealed why he turned down a move to Old Trafford before signing with Paris Saint-Germain. Man United were strongly linked with a move for Lucas in January 2013 but he eventually opted to join PSG in a £34m deal from Sao Paulo.
Last but not least, Jose Mourinho has identified Braga’s Rafa Silva as a summer transfer target ahead of his rumoured move to Man United, according to A Bola. The Portuguese manager, who is reportedly set to replace Van Gaal at Old Trafford in the summer, has ‘reserved’ the player ahead of the next campaign.
