Man United lost 2-1 to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light over the weekend and have failed to close the gap on the teams above them in the Premier League.
Van Gaal’s future at Old Trafford has come under speculation with reports suggesting Jose Mourinho could be in charge before Arsenal visit Old Trafford at the end of February.
Following his own experience at Man United, Moyes has sympathy for van Gaal’s treatment.
He said: “There’s so much media attention on Louis van Gaal just now. When I lost my job, he was lauded by everybody in football – by you people, the media and everybody else. Now many of you are the ones saying he should lose his job.”
Yes David, fan opinion of van Gaal has changed and rightly so. You could see what he was working towards in his first 16 months in charge but since our capitulation in December, we’ve been unravelling like a peeled onion and are only getting worse. There’s no sign of progress and the stagnation has become horribly predictable.
There’s been too many false dawns now and patience among fans has been replaced by an overarching sense of frustration which is impossible to ignore now. That was the same way fans treated Moyes.
It’s now not a case of if van Gaal will be replaced but when and the question remains as to if that will happen before the summer or not.
