Injury forces Wayne Rooney out of Manchester United squad to face FC Midtjylland

by Sam Peoples

Wayne Rooney was not rested for Manchester United’s Europa League tie with FC Midtjylland but in was left out due to injury.

Presumably something happened to Rooney during training this week because there was no indication of an injury to him in the 2-1 defeat to Sunderland at the weekend.

When it comes to Rooney finding form, he needs consecutive games and he tends to take some time to recover from any sort of injury, so it’s bad news regardless of how serious it is.

We’re expecting to get confirmation from Louis van Gaal during his press conference of what exactly has happened to Rooney.

In his absence, either Anthony Martial or Will Keane is likely to play up front but with the Frenchman playing so well on the left, would you really want to move him into the middle?

United’s injuries have plagued this season right from the start and they are showing no signs of slowing down as it comes towards March either, so our already thin squad is continuing to get stretched.
