Louis van Gaal has confirmed Wayne Rooney has suffered a knee injury and says Manchester United now have a total of 13 injuries.

Rooney was bang in form for Man United so it comes at the worst possible time for us seeing as our season is already falling to pieces.

We’ve had bad injury news all year long and it doesn’t look to be easing up. If anything, it is just getting more difficult.

Speaking about Rooney’s injury, van Gaal said: “We have 13 players injured and Wayne is one of them.

“You can never say [how long he could be out for]. He has a knee problem so we have to wait and see. He scores a lot of goals so he is very important for us. We know that but we have to cope with that.

“Certainly in 2016, he has scored and that’s why we had a good run in matches until sunderland. But we have to cope with that. Everybody can be injured and also the captain can be injured.”

Let’s run through the injury list: Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia, Guillermo Varela, Adnan Januzaj, Wayne Rooney, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini. That’s 11, 12 if you include Cameron Borthwick-Jackson‘s illness and 13 if you want to put down Sean Goss who is out with a serious injury.

There were always question marks raised over van Gaal’s decision to sell so many first-team players and not adequately replace and United’s injury troubles this year have shown exactly why those fears existed.
