Steve Bruce has confirmed Nick Powell will make his Hull City debut in the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round tie at Arsenal on Saturday.
The 21-year-old made two appearances at Old Trafford under Louis van Gaal this term but recently joined the Tigers on loan at the KC Stadium.
Reports indicate Ryan Giggs could persuade Man United to extend his contract after being impressed with the midfielder this season but for the time being his short-term future is at Hull and Bruce believes Powell could be the exact player Hull have been looking for.
“Nick will definitely play,” said Bruce.
“To be fair to Nick, he came here with a bit of an injury but he has now trained for ten days.
“When you look at a game like we had on Tuesday night against Brighton, Nick could be just the type of player we’re looking for and he will have a big part to play in the coming weeks. I’ve told him that. He’s versatile and can play as a striker or as a midfielder and I’m sure he can give us that bit of impetus.
“He’ll definitely play on Saturday, as will all of the ones who haven’t been playing recently.
“Making changes is the only option I’ve got. After Arsenal, we play again on Tuesday and then Friday so I have to make sure we’re fresh enough to compete in those games as well.”
It’s excellent to hear Powell will be making his first appearance and what a game to do it in. Arsenal are the FA Cup holders and will be flying high after their dramatic win over Leicester City, so it will be a very tough game for Hull.
United fans will be watching that game in anticipation of seeing how Powell gets on and I do hope he can make a real go of it. Who knows, maybe Powell will grab a last minute winner and send the Hull fans potty?
