Borthwick-Jackson was making his return to the starting XI after missing the Europa League clash against FC Midtjylland last week but he was forced off at half-time at New Meadow.
As well as losing Will Keane in the second half, Louis van Gaal has confirmed Borthwick-Jackson's substitution was also because of injury.

United’s injury record has been farcical this season, with substitute Will Keane also coming off against Shrewsbury after just four minutes of game time.
Borthwick-Jackson’s injury, in particular, will come as a blow as he has been in excellent form as of late. The hope is that he is not out too long.
Van Gaal will, however, take heart from his team’s performance against the Shrews, although they will need to carry on that form against FC Midtjylland on Thursday.
