Louis van Gaal confirms Cameron Borthwick-Jackson injury

Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Cameron Borthwick-Jackson picked up an injury in Manchester United’s 3-0 FA Cup win at Shrewsbury on Monday.

Borthwick-Jackson was making his return to the starting XI after missing the Europa League clash against FC Midtjylland last week but he was forced off at half-time at New Meadow.

Debutant Joe Riley replaced Borthwick-Jackson as Man United cruised to victory thanks to goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard. Van Gaal revealed the bad news following the clash:

United’s injury record has been farcical this season, with substitute Will Keane also coming off against Shrewsbury after just four minutes of game time.

Borthwick-Jackson’s injury, in particular, will come as a blow as he has been in excellent form as of late. The hope is that he is not out too long.

Van Gaal will, however, take heart from his team’s performance against the Shrews, although they will need to carry on that form against FC Midtjylland on Thursday.
