Louis van Gaal has joked with Manchester United fans about getting sacked after the club’s 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town.
The Dutchman has been under increasing pressure at Old Trafford with Jose Mourinho widely reported to succeed him in the summer but goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard helped van Gaal’s side pick up their first win in four games across all competitions.
He was comfortable enough making jokes about luck after Man United booked their place in the quarter-finals.
One fan said to him: “All the best for the rest of the season, mate.”
To which van Gaal replied: “Yeah, we need it. Otherwise, I shall be sacked.”
