The Frenchman, deployed on his own up top, once again showcased his raw brilliance on the ball against the League One side, but failed to make a big impact on the game.
Usually unanimous in their adulation for Martial, some Man United fans were dissatisfied with Martial’s display against Shrewsbury:
I said already Martial is struggling #MUFC

Other United fans, though, were full of praise for the 20-year-old:
I swear Martial glues the ball to his feet when he dribbles… ????

Martial has, it seems, set the bar immensely high with regard to his performance levels. Despite being just three months in, supporters expect – and need, given the way other attacking players have stagnated – rip-roaring performances from the Frenchman every game.
And this is massively unfair; for someone so young, and for someone who plays every single match, the level Martial delivers – even when below par – is outstanding.
Even in one of his ‘quieter’ games, he was wonderfully nimble on the ball, and, despite being man-marked by two defenders, seemed to locate space and looked positive throughout.
