In a season bereft of positives, the steady but powerful rise of Borthwick-Jackson – amongst other youngsters – is something Man United fans can be truly excited about.
Van Gaal has handed chances to numerous youngsters during his time at the club, but few have looked as calm and collected as Borthwick-Jackson. What he offers as a player is tantamount to what United need as a club – consistency, self-confidence and freshness.
His injury set-back, which forced him off at half-time, puts a dent in an otherwise good evening for United. Supporters will he hopeful that the 19-year-old recovers quickly with an important run of games on the horizon.
