David de Gea ruled out of FC Midtjylland game with injury

Louis van Gaal has confirmed David de Gea will not play against FC Midtjylland on Thursday night having not recovered from the knee injury he sustained in Denmark.

The Spaniard went over in the warm-up last week in Denmark and missed Monday night’s clash with Shrewsbury Town but van Gaal had hoped he would be able to return for the crucial second leg.

However, speaking to reporters at his press conference today the Man United boss confirmed that he was definitely unavailable.

He said: “I was hoping for that but he shall not be involved, that is certain.”

Sergio Romero will therefore stay in goal for Thursday and U21s goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira will most likely be his understudy on the bench having trained with the first-team this week.

I think we’ll have enough to cope without De Gea for the FC Midtjylland game but it would be a huge blow if he was ruled out of the Arsenal match on Sunday because he’s by far and away one of our most important players. Arsenal are likely to have plenty of chances on Sunday so whoever is in goal will
