Manchester United draw Liverpool in Europa League

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United have drawn Liverpool in the Europa League Round of 16 draw this afternoon.

It is the first time that the fierce rivals will play each other in European competition.

Man United will travel to Anfield for the first leg of the tie on 10th March before the return fixture at Old Trafford on 17th March.

It is remarkable that the two sides have never faced each other in European competition but Louis van Gaal will be confident having secured four straight victories over Liverpool during his time in charge as manager.

United will be hopeful that some of their big names return from injury in time for the match, with the likes of Anthony Martial, David de Gea, Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling all sidelined.

The draw comes after United secured an impressive 5-1 win over FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday, with Marcus Rashford scoring twice on his debut.
